The Sound of Africa

As part of our ‘Out of Africa’ topic, the children in Year 3/4 took part in an African drumming workshops led by a musician from ‘African Fusions’.  As well as learning a little about African animals, African instruments and countries we learnt how to drum and sing.

Linking with our music topic of ‘Cyclic Patterns’ the children were taught how to play the Djembe (an African drum). ‘African Fusion’ were able to supply each child with a drum which gave them the opportunity to play as an ensemble (something we cannot offer in school).

The day culminated with an enthusiastic performance to the rest of the school which amazed everyone present.
