The Norman Tower at the top of the town of Tricarico - with an amazing view from the top

Charlie:I enjoyed the trip  to Matera and I had my first Italian ice cream.

Rachel: I enjoyed going to the little town, Matera and going to a traditional pizza place with Ben and his family.

** WEDNESDAY  **  WEDNESDAY **   WEDNESDAY **

Today we have had the most amazing day.  We were taken by coach with all the children and some of the students from the school to Matera, a town about 30km away.  In the morning we went to the museum and the children were interested to see the story of neolithic man in the area.  After lunch (and icecream of course) we were taken on a guided tour of the old part of the town where people lived in caves until the 1960s! The children were interested to hear about the way people lived and looked at some very early churches.  Once again we have had a fabulous but very tiring day.  The children have now gone home to their host families to enjoy a splendid and well-earned dinner and rest!  Monty is coming out with the teachers to enjoy a dish of spaghetti!

 Wednesday

Unfortunately our plans to do a daily blog have been thwarted by the slow internet connection speed in Italy. Luckily, Mrs Roe was able to send a brief message and pictures using her mobile phone!

Today we are all going to Materra, which is on the coast. The mayor of Tricarico has paid for the whole day! We are all being treated like VIP's!

Monty the monkey, our school mascot, enjoys the Italian sun with some of our children.

What a view!

Charlie:my favourite part of the day was finding the hotel and taking off in the plane, i had a 12'' pizza and was the only one to finish it.

Ben: I enjoyed my pizza, I'm sleeping on the camp bed tonight.

Daniel:i liked it when we were on the plane above the clouds, the sky was blue and the sun was hot.

Jessica: I most enjoyed taking off and landing in the plane and the veiw from the plane was amazing.

Rachel: Today i enjoyed dragging my suitcase up and down lots of stairs also the pizza was scrumptious.

The Teachers: Planes, Trains and the Autobus says it all really.   Arrived safely with all the children and went on the scenic route to our hotel.  All in good spirits especially after some excellent food.
