My Day at Kentwell Hall
11:00 When we arrived at Kentwell, Caitlin gave a pass to a guard and he opened the gate and talked to us about showing reverence, which was bowing or curtsying.
11:30 We went to the blacksmith's to see them making metal hotter and making it bend.
11:55 We went over to the bridge to feed the fish with fish food and bread.
12:00 We went to the kitchen and saw lots of food on the table and that the cooks had made like gingerbread. There was a very stinky smell.
12:15 In the school room we saw a strict teacher whipping his whip on the table because he said people were being naughty. He said people would be whipped if they were naughty.
12:25 We went to the bedchamber to see an old lady sitting down with lots of pictures around her. She explained what all of the pictures meant and about King Henry VIII and his six wives.
12:40 At the dairy a lady showed us how she made cheese into balls which is quite easy, you just get cheese and roll the cheese into balls. She asked us why we needed a fork to eat instead of using a spoon or her fingers like her.
12:50 After that we went to the bakery and two ladies showed us how to make bread.
13:00 The alchemist showed us eyeballs and sheep skulls. he showed us something you can see but wasn't there. It was a spider's skin.
13:15 We went into the lute room and we heard a man and a girl play some music. They said "You don't need to learn Numeracy and English and that kind of stuff, you just need to learn to play the lute."
13:28 In the still room they told us all kinds of cures like ground stinging nettles to stop the sting of a stinging nettle and I tasted liquorice, it was yellow and really sweet. The lady put a snail on my hand and it was really cold.

Mothers Day Lunch 2010
Year 3 and 4 Roman day Spring Term 2010
The hall was transformed today into a stunning art exhibit in order for us to display and share the children's beautiful masterpieces created during 'Big Art Week'. Foundation Stage created a stunning collage by overlapping circles of different patterns and textures. Years 1 & 2 focussed on Aboriginal art to decorate large canvases. Years 3 & 4 produced colourful painted impressions of our school based on the work of Patrick Caulfield. In Years 5 & 6 they used a new form of batik, using masking tape to produce striking patterns and designs on large material. Every child and member of staff in school also designed clay tiles, which were put together to make a large collaborative piece.
We would like to thank Mr Burgess for providing us with special lighting in the hall, which made the children's work look very professional!
I Walk for iPads
Sponsored Walk
A big well done to all the children in the school for walking around the field and playground for a whole hour today. The money they raise from this event will go towards buying iPads to use across the school next year. Some children managed to walk without stopping for the whole hour and many of them walked over 20 laps!! Watch this space to find out which class walked the most laps and which child got the highest total!

KS1 Trip to Hunstanton
Monday 13th June
The children in KS1 had a fabulous day at Hunstanton where we visited the Sea Life Sanctuary and played on the beach. We saw lots of amazing sea creatures including Japanese spider crabs, reef sharks, stingrays, seahorses, penguins and much more! The children enjoyed handling starfish, anenomes and crabs in the touchpool room and learning interesting facts, such as how starfish eat and how to identify male and female crabs. The weather was beautiful and enabled us to have some time building sandcastles and collecting seashells on the beach. Many thanks to all the parent helpers that joined us, your support is always greatly appreciated!
KS1 Observational Drawing of Sea Creatures
The children in Hummingbirds and Honeybees have had a fishy time today looking at a range of seafood and carrying out some observational drawing. We looked at mackerel, crevettes, langoustines, rainbow trout, sardines, red gurnard, plaice and tilapia.
They have produced some wonderfully detailed drawings.

Judging by the tired faces at breakfast this morning, It looks as though the children are making the most of their time away!
Mill Rhythe Update - Wednesday 8th June
The children and staff are continuing to have an amzing time at Mill Rhythe. The adults on the trip have been especially impressed by the children's good manners and that they are remembering their PRIDE code even when they are far away. Perhaps, most amazingly of all, they are brilliant at going to bed and the staff are all tucked up in bed by 10.15!
Mill Rhythe Update - Monday 6th June
The children and adults have all arrived safely in Mill Rythe.Despite a very early start, the children have been keen to throw themselves in to every activity. We will keep you updated throughout teh week as we receive new messages.

KS1 Trip to
We had a lovely time during our trip to Peterborough Cathedral. Our visit included a guided tour around the Cathedral, where we were told lots of interesting facts about the history of the building and shown many beautiful and wonderful things. The children enjoyed searching for points of interest using their photographs and maps of the Cathedral. We also spent time in the grounds learning about how monks used the gardens to grow different herbs and natural remedies. The children enjoyed the practical activities which included reconstructing the Cathedral using wooden blocks, building stone arches using a wooden keystone and exploring some of the materials that had been used to build the Cathedral. We followed up our learning back at school by writing recounts of our visit and sharing key facts that we had discovered.
Our Jump Rope Day
We had a fantastic time during our Jump Rope activity day. Each class from years 1 to 6 took part in skipping sessions throughout the day in order to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. The children enjoyed the day so much that we now have a new skipping craze at break and lunch times!
We raised £190 for the charity.
A big thank you to Mrs Joiner for supporting the children during the skipping sessions and for helping to organise the event.
Well Done to the Year One children in Hummingbirds class for taking part in a dance festival today. With the help of Miss Hinchliffe and Miss Fisher, they performed a lovely routine based on Spring Time. They were joined by other children in Year One from the surrounding Orton primary schools.
KS1 '2 Can Learn'
Last week (7th February) KS1 invited parents to a ‘2 can learn’ Design and Technology morning. Inspired by our topic work about our twinned city of
Parents came in to help the KS1 children design, knead and then before baking add their choice of topping to decorate including strawberry laces, chocolate drops, dried fruit, jelly tots and cheese!
Once the bread had been baked the children then spent the rest of the morning rating their yummy bread in the big bread taste test and were surprised to find it was actually quite tasty!
The children, staff and parents all thoroughly enjoyed the morning.
Curriculum Evening Autumn 2011
Reading, Writing and Numeracy
70 parents joined us on Wednesday (9.11.11) evening for our 6th annual curriculum event. Each team in the school prepared workshops focusing on reading, writing and numeracy skills aimed at the parents of the children they teach. The feedback forms showed an overwhelmingly positive response and we would like to thank all the teachers for their hard work and effort for making the evening such a success.

Monday 26th September 2011
The children and staff have had a wonderful time today taking part in lots of Chinese inspired activities such as Tai Chi, fan making, Chopstick challenges, lantern making, origami craft, painting Chinese opera masks, decorating China flag biscuits and a music session where children played instruments and learnt about the Pentatonic scale using xylophones.
We also had the opportunity to taste some delicious Chinese food and drink Jasmine tea.
