Year 5/6 London Trip

Friday 7th October 2016

Last week a group of children from Years five and six were lucky to have the opportunity to visit London on a residential for three days.  We had a fantastic, if slightly exhausting time and the children were fantastic ambassadors for Orton Wistow.

On Monday we started our trip with a visit to London Zoo.  We saw all the usual favourites up close but perhaps the highlight was being to walk through  the “Butterfly Paradise;” a special tropical building full of a huge variety of different species of Butterflies and Moths including some that landed on anyone that was wearing bright clothing.

The following day we spent the morning at the Globe Theatre where we were given a tour of the theatre and were lead in an acting workshop by one of the actors from the Theatre.  The adults were also slightly starstruck when we spotted Jonathan Pryce, star of Tomorrow Never Dies, Pirates of the Caribbean and Game of Thrones rehearsing for a performance of the Merchant of Venice as we completed our tour.

We had our lunch next to the Thames before heading to the British Museum for the afternoon. Our Year 5 children especially enjoyed showing off their knowledge of the Egyptian displays.  In the evening we headed to the west end and the Lyceum theatre for an amazing performance of The Lion King which all the children throughly enjoyed.

Our final morning was spent at the Natural History museum which handily was less than 200 metres from the hotel we were staying in.  The children loved admiring the dinosaur skeletons, learning about lots of different creepy crawlies and even experiencing an earthquake simulation.  It was a brilliant way to end an amazing, jam-packed few days.
