A Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is amazing how cold it has become all of a sudden. It doesn't feel long ago that we were experiencing record-breaking temperatures across the country and all finding ways to cope with the heat. Sitting in my children's paddling pool with a cold drink seemed to work well for me!

Hilltop Residential

When I saw the staff returning from Hilltop this week, I could tell it had been a very busy few days but they were smiling and all said they had a good time. The children were brave, enthusiastic and consistently followed the PRIDE code whilst they were away from home. I have seen a video of Mrs. Cawston jumping from the 10-metre platform onto the air bed! She made it look easy. I'd like to thank the staff who went on the trip. Looking after the children from the moment they leave on day one to the minute they arrive back is exhausting but they all know the difference it makes and what wonderful memories are made on these residentials.

Clubs

Next week our clubs start. We have lots of clubs being run by members of staff and the take up by the children has been great. Please make sure the children know which days and times they are at a club and have the required equipment or clothing for their chosen activity. If for any reason your child can't attend an after-school club you must inform the school office, so they can let the member of staff know. If a child does not turn up to a club after school it becomes a safeguarding issue until we know where they are, chasing missing children takes time away from the adult running the club and this is easily avoided by a quick phone call or email to the school office.

Curriculum Evening

We are looking forward to seeing many of you next week for this year's curriculum evening for Years 1-6. I'm hoping that more of you will use the online booking form to let us know you will be joining us. We currently have around a third of our families coming along to the event. For more details of how to book, please click here: Curriculum Evening 05.10.22. You have until Monday morning to book your place.

I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.

OWPS Staff Gallery

By Mrs McIntosh, Art Lead

The school gallery has been established for a few years now. We have had amazing work hung on the walls from across the school. These have included class projects, 'Artists through time' inspired paintings and our brilliant 'Jubilee' collages featuring the Queen.

However, we found the gallery empty at the start of the term and in need of artwork. We couldn't think of a better way to fill it than with the creative works of the staff of OWPS. We are a talented lot!

The gallery showcase a vast range of work such as crochet by Mrs Ironside, photography by Mrs Swindells, printmaking by Miss Scarborough-Mace, paintings by Mrs McIntosh as well as craft, henna and embroidery. We hope the children will be inspired by our creative hobbies and may even give some of them a go. If you're in school over the following half-term please have a look at the artwork on show.

Year 6 Family Learning 22.09.22

By Mrs Simmons, Year 6 Sharks Class Teacher

On September 22nd, Year Six invited parents to their Family Learning session.  During the session, parents learned how to support their children in maths and how maths is taught in Year Six, thinking about reasoning and fluency.  It was a well-supported session, and we all enjoyed it immensely.

The resources shared throughout the session can be found using the links below:

Curriculum Evening 05.10.22

By Mr Marks, Headteacher

On Wednesday 5th October we will be hosting our annual OWPS Curriculum Evening. This event is for all parents and carers of children in Years One to Six.

The focus for this event is on how you can support your child at home with their learning. Like we did for the Transition Evening, there will be three parts to the event, and you can choose which presentations to attend, according to the age of your children. All year groups are preparing 25-minute sessions and there will be an additional presentation in the middle.

The outline for the evening is as follows:

5.50pm – Doors open

6.00pm – Year group presentations in classrooms

6.30pm – Communication and wellbeing presentation in the hall for everyone

7.00pm – Year group presentations (repeat)

7.30pm – Evening finishes

You can choose to arrive at either 5.50pm and attend the first presentation or, arrive at 6.25pm for the presentation in the hall followed by a Year Group session.

The Transition Evening in the summer term was very well attended, and we are hoping to see just as many parents and carers join us for this event. It is your chance to hear about some important things happening in school, be clear on the best ways you can help your child with their learning at home and ask their teachers related questions.

Please visit https://ortonwistow.schoolcloud.co.uk to log in and book your sessions:

  • Login with your parent details and your child's details. If you have more than one child at the school (in Years 1-6), it doesn’t matter for this event which child’s name you use to log in.

  • Please use your child's formal name (i.e. the name you gave us when your child first started at the school) when logging in.  For example, if your child is known as Jonny Peterson, but their formal name is given as Jonathon-Edward Peterson, please use the formal name with which to log in.

  • Schoolcloud will send you a confirmation email including a link to amend or cancel the booking if needed. The booking form will close at 10am on Monday 3rd October 2022.

  • If you have any problems or queries, please contact the school office on 01733 370646 for some help.
