A Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

Another week has flown by and there is a lot of evidence that we are approaching a certain time of year! I did a new Foundation Stage parent tour this week during an afternoon, and it was great for them to see classes and year groups rehearsing for upcoming performances, something that is very important to us here. We have the Year Five assembly next week, and then we will have the FS Nativity and the Year Two Christmas play!

Christmas Fayre

The date for the Christmas Fayre has now been finalised, and it will be held on Friday 9th December after school. I have spoken with Jo Watson (Chair of FOWS) about the event and seen the plans, and it looks like it is going to be great! I hope many of you will be able to come along and join in the fun. The Book Fair will also be open during the Christmas Fayre, and we will send more details about that nearer the time.

Sporting Events

We have already had several sporting events go ahead this year, and we have many more in the calendar. Well done to all the boys and girls that represented the school this week. We came second out of 23 schools at the cross-country event which is an amazing result. We also had a girls' football qualification tournament, and although we didn't make it through, we were only 2 points off, so well done to all the children involved!

Are you smarter than an OWPS pupil?

This week's questions are:

  1. What is the difference between an engineer and a designer? (Year 4 DT)
  2. Why is Harriet Tubman's legacy important to Modern Day Britain? (Year 6 Reading)
  3. Comment vas-tu à l'ecole? (Year 3 French)

Have a good weekend everyone.

Mr Marks

Foundation Stage, Years 1 & 2 11.11.22
In the Cobras we explored why Buddhists celebrate Wesak. We then took this knowledge and create our own lanterns. This child produced a wonderful example of this brilliant work.

Anti Bullying Week 2022 – Monday 14th to Friday 18th November

By Mr Newton, Year 3 Teacher / Science and DT Lead / Anti-Bullying Lead

Next week we’ll be joining with 1000’s of other schools from around the country to mark Anti-Bullying Week.  Anti-Bullying Week is an annual UK event, held in the third week in November which aims to raise awareness of bullying of children and young people, in schools and elsewhere, and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it.  Across school children will be taking part in a range of activities, lessons and assemblies as we explore this year's theme ‘Reach Out’.  Keep your eyes out on our twitter pages and in next week's newsletter to see what we get up to.

As normal, we will be launching our week on the Monday by celebrating ‘Odd Socks Day’.  On this day we will be joining with millions of children and adults who will be going to school or work in odd socks day to highlight what makes us all unique and help prevent bullying. There is no pressure on the children to wear the latest fashion or for parents to buy expensive costumes, or bring a donation in. All they have to do to take part is wear odd socks to school, it couldn’t be simpler!

Sustrans Cycling Session

By Mrs Porter, Eco Lead

Thank you @Sustrans_East for coming into school this week and last week.  We enjoyed using 'pedal power' to make smoothies.  Some of our KS1 children also had a go at cycling without stabilisers.  It was great to see resilience, perseverance and team work!  Parents were given training on how to help their child to feel confident cycling.  Well done to all!
