A Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

Scraping the ice off my car for the first time this term was an indication that winter is creeping up. Locker rooms are getting full of coats, scarves, hats and gloves. Please make sure you label all items to avoid them getting lost or ending up in lost property.

Sponsored Event

This year's sponsored event, The OWPS Move-A-Thon, was a huge success. Thank you to all those involved in organising the day and to everyone who sponsored the event. The whole school was in the hall, and it was a great way to start the day, moving along to several songs including The Macerana and We Will Rock You. Classes and teams had then come up with imaginative ways to keep the children moving at regular points throughout the day. I imagine many of them slept well on Wednesday night!

Online Safety Week

Each half-term we have an online safety week in school. All children will take part in an online safety lesson as part of the Wistow curriculum and the Wistow Rangers will support the learning in these lessons. Next week will be the Autumn 2 online safety week. Please ask your children about the lesson and what they know about keeping themselves and others safe online.

Are you smarter than an OWPS pupil?

This week's questions are:

  1. What types of rocks are formed from the cooling of magma or lava?  (Year 4 science)

              (a) Igneous b) Sedimentary c) Metamorphic

  1. Why did men assist with the suffragette movement? (Year 6 English/History)
  1. Can you create three different 2D shapes using 15 lollipop sticks? (Year 2 maths)

Good luck!

Year 4 Family Learning 17.11.22

By Mrs Morris, Year 4 Class Teacher

On Thursday 17th November, Year 4 welcomed their grown-ups to Family Learning. The focus was on timetables, and they were taken through how we teach them in Year 4. They started off recapping some facts and then used practical equipment to calculate word problems. Year 4 played games with their grown-ups, like rock, paper, scissors and bingo! They finished off with an application task and a chance to complete a multiplication check on the Chromebook, answering 25 questions in just two and a half minutes. Thank you to all the adults who joined us!

Grandparents' Lunches November 2022

Over the last two weeks, from Monday 14th November until Friday 25th November, we have welcomed approximately 20 grandparents a day who have booked in to have lunch with their grandchildren.

Grandparents have been able to enjoy a range of meal choices including Roast Chicken or Quorn Fillet and Yorkshire Pudding, Handmade Pizza Margherita or Sweet Chilli Chicken, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Fudge Cake, Iced Sponge and Pink Sauce, and much, much more!

We have had some lovely feedback from grandparents who have enjoyed the opportunity to have a school dinner with their grandchild/ren and see them in the school environment. Here is an example of one of the thank-you cards that we received:

Dear Mr Marks,

We are writing to thank you so very much for inviting us to join our granddaughter for lunch in Orton Wistow School on Wednesday.

We had an amazing time from the moment we went through the school gates to leaving the school.  The teachers, Teaching Assistants, and Catering Staff were incredible, and the food was excellent.  We both left the school on such a 'high'.

Our grandchild has just started her educational journey, but we feel that in the few weeks that she has been attending she has learnt so much, and is really enjoying the experience.

Our grandchild, we are certain, will develop remarkably from the care, help and support of Orton Wistow School.  Thanks to you and all of the staff once again.

Operation Christmas Child - THANKYOU!

By Mrs Hales, OWPS Local Governance Committee Member

A final THANK YOU to everyone who has supported the Operation Christmas Child appeal. We will have a confirmed final destination for the gifts in the New Year but most of the UK boxes are heading to Ukraine and the surrounding countries for refugees and those impacted by the conflict.

Each shoebox (some of your boxes seen here just before being collected!) will be treasured by a child who has perhaps lost everything. Each gift you donated has been packed away in a box contributing to the grand total of 124 boxes from the school and the local community! We pray that every box will be blessed as they wing their way to children in need across Europe. Thank you.
