A Message from OWPS

Dear parents and carers,

It feels like we have had just about every type of weather this week! It has not stopped us from having another productive four days in school, and we are already about to start the penultimate week of this half-term.

SATs Week

Well done to all the Year Six children for completing their SATs this week. After another long weekend, they didn't get underway until Tuesday with the GPS and Spelling papers, followed by the reading paper and then the three maths papers. We have been blown away by the children's attitudes this week and this was also commented on by Claire Drake from the Local Authority who carried out an unannounced moderation visit of the SATs administration on Wednesday. She was pleased with everything she saw and the children and staff can feel proud of what they have done this week.

Coronation Arts & Culture Project

The project designed by Miss. Ellis and Mrs. McIntosh is now on display in our art gallery by the front entrance to the school. Each class was given a different Commonwealth country to focus on. Each class created a representation of the country's national flower and immersed themselves in the country's art and culture. The work is stunning!

Are you smarter than a Wistow pupil?

Good luck answering this selection of questions that have been asked in classes across the school this week:

  1. In FS we have been learning about animals that hatch from an egg and those that are mammals. Can you name 5 animals that are mammals? (FS)

  2. What are the features of a letter? (Year Two English)

  3. Why did punishment become so bloody in the 18th Century? (Year 5 History)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. See you all back in school on Monday.

Mr. Marks

Celebrating Success

Here at Orton Wistow Primary School, we recognise that success comes in all different shapes and sizes! We celebrate the children's achievements in school in the Achievements section of the newsletter and website.

Many of the children, however, are also achieving things outside of school.  We would like to recognise these successes too.

It might be that your child has passed a music or dance exam, gained a karate belt, starred in a show, volunteered, taken part in a sporting event, or done something that they didn't think was possible!

If you would like to share your child's achievements with us so that we can celebrate their success, please complete the Celebrating Success form which can be found on the school website. Contributions will be considered for inclusion in upcoming editions of the newsletter.

We look forward to hearing about your children's extracurricular achievements!

Recent Successes

We are so proud of Willow as this weekend passed, she performed two musical numbers at Saddlers wells theatre in London. Her and her theatre group performed a piece from Les Mis where willow had a small duet section, she and her older partner had to move to the front of the stage whilst singing and the rest of the group remained still. They also did a dance piece together. Willow showed resilience when she had a costume malfunction and a great deal of independence as she was dropped off, travelled without us on a coach, and performed to thousands of people before being reunited with us at 11pm that night. She absolutely smashed it, and we are very proud of her.

This child in Year 3, along with her team, were the division winners coming 1st in a cheerleader competition. Well done to the whole team!

This child in Year 6 came 1st in both her piano solo and duet classes at the Oundle Festival of Music and Drama. What a fantastic achievement and result. Well done!

This child from Iguanas has got his very first swimming badge of 25 metres. He has shown great improvement recently and started to swim independently, earning this impressive badge.

This child from Seals has earnt her 200 metres swim badge recently. When asked how she feels about it, her response was "I wasn't even tired, the teacher wouldn't let me do more".

Congratulations to them both!

OWN Trust Arts & Culture Project

To celebrate the King's Coronation, the OWN Trust collaborated to complete a special arts and culture project. Our focus question for the project was 'Who will be celebrating the Coronation alongside the UK?'. Every class across the Trust was given a different Commonwealth Country. As part of the project, each class created a representation of their country's national flower and immersed themselves in their country's art and culture. At OWPS, we are very proud of the children's collaborative outcomes which are on display in our art gallery and I know each class enjoyed exploring different arts and cultural activities linked to their country. Please look out for the virtual gallery which will be displayed in the OWN Trust newsletter at the end of this half-term.
