A Message from OWPS

Dear parents and carers,

What a busy but positive week it has been at OWPS. It often surprises me how much we manage to fit into a single week at school, but I think this is one of the main reasons I enjoy working here, every week is different!

Curriculum Evening

Thank you to those parents who signed up and came along to the curriculum evening on Wednesday. As our Year One to Six Family Learning sessions have focused on GPS, we decided that maths would be a good area to concentrate on for this event. Every year group (1-6) ran two sessions looking at some elements of the maths curriculum and got the parents engaged and involved with some calculations. We hope that this will help when your child is completing some homework, or you want to give them a bit of extra practice. We then joined together in the hall for a short session on the importance of Online Safety and how we can work together to help the children keep themselves safe when online. I finished that session by sharing a few websites that have some good advice for parents, they are:

  • Keep Children Safe Online: Information, Advice, Support - Internet Matters (www.internetmatters.org)

  • Childnet — Online safety for young people (www.childnet.com)

  • Homepage - UK Safer Internet Centre (www.saferinternet.org.uk)

Year Six 2CanLearn

Wonderful to see so many family members in school yesterday morning for the Year Sixes 2CanLearn session. Mr. Cowles and Mr. Newton planned this hour-long activity, using our new Access Art scheme focusing on portraits. Children and their visitors took it in turns to pose whilst the other sketched a portrait of them. It sounded like a lot of fun and sitting perfectly still for a few minutes was definitely a challenge for many.

Hopefully, the weekend will be a little calmer than today! See you all next week.

Last Thursday our mixed football team played a game against St John’s. They adapted well to the wet and muddy conditions and ended up winning 3-0.  A special mention should go to Joel who played very well in his first match for the team.   Photo by Markus Spiske on Unsplash
