A Message from OWPS

Another half-term draws to an end on this romantic of days. We are now halfway through our school year. Three half-terms completed and three more to go. I would like to wish all our children and families a well-deserved week away from school. The same goes to all the staff at Orton Wistow Primary School I hope you all enjoy your half-term break.

Year 3

This week brought the Year 3 performance of ‘Amazing Egyptians.’ The children performed brilliantly, and they should be very proud of themselves. There was singing, acting, humour, and a mummy! Not forgetting a parent quiz at the end. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and was taken-a-back by the turn-out. Well done to our year 3 parents – we ran out of chairs! A great way for the children to finish their theme.

Battle of the Voices

The children across the school have been mixed into 7 singing groups. From early years all the way up to year 6. Adults across the school have also joined in.

Over the last few weeks the children have been learning and practising their song. They have worked hard to add little extra elements including movements and harmony’s. It has been a pleasure to see children singing together at all ages. It is getting quite competitive with staff I can tell you. This Wednesday after we had our school competition. The children performed to each other and to a panel of judges. These were made up by a music teacher from OBA, our OWN Chair of Trustees and a former governor!

I’m sure you know by now if your child was in the winning team. I would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Francis for organising this. It really did bring the whole school community together.

Parents evening

A huge thank you to all parents who attended their online parent evening appointment this week. A chance to have a catch-up with your child’s class teacher and see how they are progressing through the year. Well done teachers for the constant flow of appointments.

Safer Internet Day

As previously mentioned it was Safer Internet day on Tuesday. We have focussed on this years theme: Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online. Mr Marks kicked off the week with a whole school assembly on Monday outlining the theme and ways children can stay safe. This was then followed up in class with age-appropriate topics covered.

Please rest and allow this time to re-charge the batteries. I look forward to hearing about all your interesting stories from your break.
