A Message from OWPS

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have arrived at the last day of the Spring Term and what better way to bring the term to a close than with ‘Break the Rules’ Day! This event has been running for a number of years and I know has become a firm favourite with the children. Eating your pudding before your main is quite the treat! Thank-you to our FOWs committee who continue to make our fundraising events a success and are continually striving to support the school in new ways. Thank-you also to our families for taking part and donating to the school, every penny really does count.

Lunchtime update

For some time, we have been researching and adapting ways to enhance the children’s experiences at playtimes and lunchtimes. We’ve worked on establishing playground zones and developing quieter spaces for children to access during the unstructured parts of the school day. Making this part of the day fun for all continues to be our priority, as we know that play contributes to children’s physical and emotional health, wellbeing and overall enjoyment of school.

We are excited to share that we will be commencing the OPAL play programme to develop our playtime offering further. OPAL is a mentor-supported school improvement programme. It addresses all of the areas schools must plan for if they want to strategically and sustainably improve the quality of their play opportunities. We will be communicating with you regularly on this development over the Summer Term. All funds raised through events like ‘Break the Rules’ day today will go towards establishing new provision for the OPAL Programme.

At the end of a term, it’s great to reflect on the many successes we have achieved and what a lot we can celebrate. Our sports teams have continued to represent the school to a high level, our choir have been active in the community and the OWPS Battle of the Voices contest was a standout success. Many year groups have enjoyed residentials, trips and visitors this term and we are always proud to invite parents and carers in to share your child’s learning journey. Both staff and pupils certainly deserve a well-earned rest!

I wish you all a happy Easter and look forward to seeing you back in the Summer Term.

This week, we learned about Easter and how Christians celebrate Easter. We created wooden Easter crosses to remind us of the Easter Story. We learned how to safely use a saw to cut wood and practiced hammering a nail to join the pieces together. This is Aaliyah's brilliant cross!
