A Message from OWPS

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a beautiful week we have had. Having just had a walk through the school, I could see several children putting on their sun hats ready to go outside for playtime and there was a faint aroma of holidays in the air as several pupils applied an extra bit of suntan lotion. Thank you for providing children with the necessary things to keep them safe and comfortable in this weather. If children can apply suntan lotion at home that is long-lasting, that is always a big help. I'm hoping we can avoid the 40-degree days we experienced last year!

London

We had a lot of excited Year Six children on Wednesday, heading off to their residential in London. This is a great trip and by the look of the tweets coming through, they are having a wonderful time. I always used to say that I was not a 'musical' fan but after experiencing Matilda, The Lion King and Wicked on this trip in the past, I have definitely changed my mind. They arrive back today and will be shattered after a very busy few days!

Sports Days

We are looking forward to our sports days taking place next week. Key Stage Two on Tuesday and then Foundation Stage / Key Stage One on Friday. Please make sure your child comes to school on that day in their PE kit and has a water bottle with them. They can wear a plain t-shirt matching their house colour for this event. We aim to start at 9.30am. The main Wistow Way gate will be opened at 9.15am to allow parents onto the playground. We look forward to seeing you next week.

Statutory Tests

We have now completed all the statutory tests for the academic year. The phonics screening tests and Multiplication Tables Checks took place this week and the children that took part did so happily and with a good attitude. We had two further visits from the local authority, one as a spot check on the phonics screening administration and the other as a pre-planned moderation of Year Six writing. Our visitors were very pleased with what they saw and complimented the school on the hard work that had gone into making sure we are compliant with statutory tests and agreed with our judgements of the Year Six writing. Well done to all the staff involved.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, stay safe in the sun, and we will see you on Monday.

Celebrating Success

Here at Orton Wistow Primary School, we recognise that success comes in all different shapes and sizes! We celebrate the children's achievements in school in the Achievements section of the newsletter and website.

Many of the children, however, are also achieving things outside of school.  We would like to recognise these successes too.

It might be that your child has passed a music or dance exam, gained a karate belt, starred in a show, volunteered, taken part in a sporting event, or done something that they didn't think was possible!

If you would like to share your child's achievements with us so that we can celebrate their success, please complete the Celebrating Success form which can also be found below.  Contributions will be considered for inclusion in upcoming editions of the newsletter.

We look forward to hearing about your children's extracurricular achievements!

This Week's Successes!

This child was very proud to get star of the class in martial arts at the weekend. Well done.
