Dear parents and carers,
The weeks are flying by and as we come to the end of our third week of the Autumn term, I am reflecting on what has been a really positive start to the school year. It has been lovely seeing our new Foundation Stage children come into school over the past two weeks and they are now ready to start full time with us on Monday. Year Six have already completed an assessment week and Mr. Cowles and Miss. Carters are both pleased with how they gave each test their best and we can now use this information to plan targeted lessons for the Cobras and Chameleons. Next week, lots of our Year Five pupils will be heading to Hilltop for this year's first residential trip, I know Mr. Newton is excited about the high ropes challenge! It is amazing what we fit into just a few weeks!
Staffing Update
Earlier in the week, I wrote to the parents of the Turtles and Sharks children to let them know about some changes to our teaching team. Mrs. Terreblanche is pregnant and expecting her first baby in February. We are really excited for her and we will wish her well as she starts her maternity leave in January. At the end of this term, Mrs. Simmons will be leaving OWPS to take up a role as part of the LAs LASS team. She will be a SEN teacher, supporting staff, pupils and families in schools across the city. This is a wonderful opportunity for her and an area of eduction she has a particular interest and expertise in. We already have adverts out for both a maternity cover for Mrs. Terreblanche and a new teacher to replace Mrs. Simmons. We will continue to communicate with you all about these changes. I am sure you will join me in wishing them both the best of luck for the exciting adventures they will be starting soon!
Harvest Collection
My assembly on Monday will be about harvest. For the past few years we have done a harvest collection in school and donated it all to the Peterborough Food Bank. This wonderful service does a great job at supporting families in the city and they are always very grateful for any donations of food our OWPS community are happy to give. If you have something at home or can pick up an extra can the next time you do a big shop, please just send into school with your child. Thank you.
My plan was to take Rosie and Margot (my two bassetts) to the coast tomorrow, their favourite place (I'll also take Mrs. Marks and my two boys!), fingers crossed the weather holds out. Have a lovely weekend everyone.
