Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a wonderful half-term break. I know the children were ready for a breather after a very long half term! The rest has clearly helped, as we have had a great first week back and hit the ground running with a full on week in school.
Meridian
We are now officially part of The Meridian Trust! The Own Trust merged on the 1st of November, and we have now joined this large and successful trust. There are now thirty-five schools altogether, made up of a mix of primary, secondary and special schools. We are getting to know the Meridian central team and look forward to tapping into their expertise in many areas to help OWPS continue to move forward and do everything we can for the young people we serve. The only obvious change at the moment in school has been to our IT set up. This was a large project, and although we are experiencing (as expected) some teething issues, the new system and hardware continue to settle and will ultimately be more up to date and reliable. There will be some other changes at times, but this will happen slowly, and we will retain those things that make our school unique and special.
OPAL
Our OPAL Lunchtimes project is moving at pace now, and we are excited to officially start this with the children in the coming weeks. This will be a soft start as it is a reasonably big change to how lunchtimes work in school, and we want to take small steps towards the final goal. This will allow us to observe and make changes as necessary and introduce more variety to the hour at an appropriate pace. We will be speaking to the children about the first steps next week, and we will send home some information to you all. Thank you again for the donations made to the school for this project. We have a good stock of resources, but please continue to think of us when having a bit of a sort out at home.
Year Two Family Learning
It wouldn't be a normal week at OWPS if we didn't have at least fifty parents in the building at some point! It was lovely to see so many of our Year Two parents join their children for the session yesterday. The focus was maths and Mrs. Khan and Mr. Nolan organised the session to give everyone an insight into what this part of the curriculum looks like for the children in the Nighthawks and Koalas.
I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend,
Mr. Marks
Headteacher
