A Message from OWPS

Mr Marks, the Headteacher, writes....

Dear Parents and Carers,

We managed to survive Storm Chandra this week and even got outside for lunchtime on that day! Takes more than a storm to stop OWPS! There has been a lot going on in school this week and the end of January has flown by. Hopefully, as we enter February, the days will gradually start to feel a little longer, and we will see a bit more sunshine.

Year 6 Trip to Bletchley Park

Our Year 6 pupils enjoyed a fantastic trip to Bletchley Park, where they explored the world of codebreaking and learned about the incredible individuals who worked there during the Second World War. The hands‑on workshops and fascinating exhibits brought their history and computing topics to life, sparking excitement and curiosity back in the classroom.

Meridian Peer Review

On Tuesday, we were joined by a team of people who work in a variety of leadership roles for Meridian Trust to carry out a review of OWPS. All Meridian schools go through this process twice each year and it is a great way to get some feedback from other professionals on what is working well and what we can consider improving. It was a very positive day with every member of the team identifying lots of strengths at OWPS including the consistency of routines, behaviour and expectations across the school, the high levels of pupil engagement and our inclusive practices. Some areas for consideration were discussed, and we will use this to help us shape the focus for the second half of the school year.

Time to say goodbye

After a decade of working at OWPS, we will be saying a very sad goodbye to Ms. McLaughlin at the end of this half term. Ms. McLaughlin has been a valued member of the OWPS team and has been the office manager for a number of years, running a tight ship in this part of the school. Since becoming the Headteacher, she has been a huge support to me and I will be forever grateful for her dedication, hard work and humour. Ms. McLaughlin begins a new job after half term working in a secondary school as a PA to the principal and the personnel manager, leading a larger team. She has been ready for a new challenge for a while, and I am sure you will join me in wishing her the very best of luck.

Parents Evening

About 70% of parents/carers have signed up for a parents evening slot already. I would ideally like this to be 100% and you still have plenty of time to log in to SchoolCloud and sign up. Please use this link to make an appointment if you haven't done so already, thank you:

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Mr. Marks
