Welcome Back and Happy New Year!
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you had a wonderful festive break and are feeling refreshed as we begin an exciting new term. It’s lovely to see the children back in school, ready to learn and play together.
As you’ll have noticed, the new year has brought some very cold and wet weather! Please ensure your child comes to school with warm, waterproof outerwear, including a coat, hat, and suitable footwear. This will help them stay comfortable and safe during playtimes.
Despite the chilly conditions, we’re embracing the season as a fantastic opportunity to enhance our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) experiences at lunchtimes. The children have been reminded that, as part of Phase 1 of the programme, lunchtime access remains limited to the playgrounds and the Wistow Mile track. This helps us to reduce the impact of soggy mud while still giving children plenty of space to play and explore.
Upcoming Curriculum Evening – Wednesday 21st January
We are delighted to invite you to our Curriculum Evening on Wednesday 21st January. This is a valuable opportunity for us to work with you and share ways that you can continue to support your child at home. The evening will take place in the school hall and will cover a number of important topics, including updates on our OPAL journey.
More information will follow in a separate letter coming out shortly, but we hope you will join us for what promises to be an informative and engaging event.
Thank you for your continued support in making playtime active, fun, and safe for all. We’re looking forward to a brilliant term ahead!
Warm regards,
Hayley Fidgett

Dear Parents and Carers,
What a lovely week this has been in school. We finally launched our OPAL project on Monday, and it has been great to see the children enjoying the changes we have introduced. From the start of the week, they had access to more areas of the school site and, because they followed the new routines and the PRIDE Code, we introduced some additional resources today which they loved using. This is a big project and one that will evolve over time. We will continue to keep you up to date and look out for photos being shared on the school's Facebook page.
It's beginning to look a lot like.....
You only have to visit a shop or drive down most streets once it is dark to see that we are entering the festive season. It is an exciting time in school, with lots for us to look forward to. We also know that for some children, it can be an unsettling time due to changes to routine and big events happening. With that in mind, below is a list of Christmas events happening in school that we can all be prepared for and get excited about:
Monday 1st: Christmas decorations will go up in school
Tuesday 2nd 9.15: FS Nativity to the rest of the school
Thursday 4th 9.00am: FS Nativity to family members
Friday 5th 3.30pm - 5.00pm: Christmas Fair after school
Tuesday 9th 2pm: Year 2 performance to school
Wednesday 10th 2pm and 6pm: Year 2 performance for parents
Wednesday 10th 10am: Choir to Notcutts for carol singing
Monday 15th 2pm: Christmas carols/service assembly (instead of church visit) whole school
Wednesday 17th: Christmas jumper day, Christmas lunch, movie afternoon
Wednesday 17th: 'Elfridges' (FOWS Christmas sale in P1)
Friday 19th: Toy day – children can bring a toy into school to play with in their classroom. No electronic games and nothing sentimental. Children are responsible for looking after the toys they bring into school.
Weather
It has definitely turned a little wintry this week, and I was glad I had gloves and a scarf when opening the gate! Please make sure your children have suitable clothing for break and lunchtime, and please label them. We often gather quite a collection of gloves, scarves and hats at this time of year on lost property! Thank you.
I hope you have an enjoyable weekend and I will see you all bright and early on Monday morning.
