New Blog Post

Welcome to the OWPS Governor's blog.

Dear Parents/Carers

‘Meet The Governors’

Stuart Cleworth – Local Authority Governor / Chair of Governors

I have been a governor for 5 years and Chair of governors for 3 years now and bring 20 years of management experience within the construction industry. I currently head up construction within the Commercial Sector for an international main contractor within London.

My experience within the construction industry greatly assisted during the recent construction works at OWPS.

Mark Hutchins – Co-Opted Governor

My name is Mark Hutchins, I am a Co-opted Governor and Vice Chair of the Governing Body.

I was originally asked to join the Governing Body about 8 years ago as a Community Governor as I live in Orton Wistow and my daughter attended the school. My daughter is now at Ormiston Bushfield Academy and my son now attends OWPS.

During my time on the Governing Body I have served in a number of roles including chairing the Resources and Platform One committees and acting as Chair of Governors.

Dr Jan Clark – Partnership Governor

I am Dr Jan Clark and I am a Partnership Governor.

I also have a role as English Governor and as Equality Governor.

This is my first experience of being a school governor, but I have been in Education all my working life.  I have lived in Orton Wistow for over 25 years and have watched, with great interest, the school being built and grow over the years.  I come into school each Tuesday morning to listen to students in years 5/6 read as a Reading Buddy and I enjoy this enormously.

Janice Colvin – Co – Opted Governor

My name is Janice Colvin and I am a newly appointed Co Opted Governor. I have lived in Orton Wistow for almost 30 years and both my children attended Orton Wistow Primary School. I recently retired as a Community Paediatric Physiotherapist based at the Child Development Centre. I believe that the knowledge and skills I acquired over many years working for the NHS will help me in my role as School Governor with responsibility for Special Educational Needs, Safeguarding and Child Protection.

Ian Mahoney - Community Governor

My family have lived in Orton Wistow for 15 years and my three children all attended Orton Wistow Primary School.

I was a Parent Governor at OWPS for 6 years until my children moved onto Bushfield Academy, where I have been a Parent Governor for the last three years.

I was recently invited back to the OWPS governing Body as a Community Governor, where hopefully my background experience will help support our great community school. I look forwards to serving again.

Mary Foreman – Co-Opted Governor

I have been involved in the world of education for around 30 years, starting off many years ago as a parent governor when my children were at Infant school. I spent many years as a school governor and a chairperson of the Friends of their junior school. A career change, moving away from working as a sales executive, meant that I undertook teacher training as a mature student. My teaching roles and responsibilities were many and varied but my teaching specialisms were in science and maths in primary schools. More recently I have developed my own educational consultancy and work with schools that are experiencing challenging circumstances.

I am a parent and a grandparent - my children and grandchildren passing through Peterborough schools and colleges. My children have gone on to develop successful careers for themselves while my grandchildren are developing as learners in a Peterborough Primary School. I look forward to providing challenge and support to Orton Wistow Primary School as a governor during my term of office.

David Perkins – Parent Governor

Hi, I'm David Perkins, one of the two Parent Governors and am now in my second term in the role. Over my time on the Governing Body, I've also been the Equality Governor and am now currently helping with E-Safety and the content of the Governor Blog.

My background is in IT and Information Security, which I hope complements the industry knowledge brought in by my fellow governors.

Michael Bullard – Foundation Governor

My name is Michael Bullard and I have been a Foundation Governor for two years.

I am a qualified accountant and employed by Ormiston Bushfield Academy as a Regional Finance Director. As part of this role I manage the non-curriculum services of the Academy such as Finance, ICT, Site facilities, Catering and Administration. I also oversee the financial management of three other secondary and two primary schools within the Ormiston family.

As Orton Wistow is a key member of the Academy’s cluster of feeder primary schools I am really keen to ensure that it continues to be successful.

Miguel Regojo – Parent Governor

Hi, my name is Miguel Regojo and I'm one of the two Parent Governors on the Governing body. I have been a Parent Governor at OWPS since 2009. Currently I have two children at the school.

My background is in mechanical engineering and currently I run my own business.

Dear Parents/Carers

Back in the summer 2014 term a small group of governors, parents and staff met to work on the latest version of the school's Accessibility Plan.  The result is something very much in keeping with our PRIDE code.

Do your best

Everybody Matters

In this respect it is one of the Governing Body's primary aims is to ensure that disabled pupils can participate in the school curriculum.  The audit completed as part of this exercise has shown that the building and not just our exciting new extension is suitable for children of all abilities and that we have qualified staff, with a SENCO who is a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

If you have any questions regarding our Accessibility Plan please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Kind Regards

The OWPS Governing Body

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to the first Governor blog.  This inaugural copy is being issued as both a blog and letter as we'd like to highlight where you can find governor information on the website, how the blog will work and how often you can expect to find updates.

The blog itself is something new that we hope will give you an appreciation of some of the decisions the governors are involved in.  It will be issued at least once a term;  the content may vary in style, but will never be the sole method of providing you with critical information.  The blog will only ever be a one way communication medium and the aim is for us to keep it to approximately 150 words.
The Governor blog can be found on the School Info area of the OWPS website, alongside the details how the Governing Body is made up, the committees and how often we meet.

Kind Regards
The OWPS Governing Body
