  • Celebrating Success 07.03.25

    Published 07/03/25

Here at Orton Wistow Primary School, we recognise that success comes in all different shapes and sizes! We celebrate the children's achievements in school in the Achievements section of the newsletter and website.

Many of the children, however, are also achieving things outside of school.  We would like to recognise these successes too.

It might be that your child has passed a music or dance exam, gained a karate belt, starred in a show, volunteered, taken part in a sporting event, or done something that they didn't think was possible!

If you would like to share your child's achievements with us so that we can celebrate their success, please complete the Celebrating Success form which can also be found below.  Contributions will be considered for inclusion in upcoming editions of the newsletter.

We look forward to hearing about your children's extracurricular achievements!

    This Week's Successes!

These brothers in Year 6 and Year 2 both competed in the Sports Karate Alliance competition at the weekend. Oscar secured a silver medal and also supported children throughout the day in a coaching role. Theo fought in 3 categories, including a more advanced section with older children, and won a gold and silver medal. Here is a picture of them both on the podium. Congratulations to both boys.

  • World Book Day-Friday 7th March

    Published 28/02/25

This year we will be celebrating World Book Day in school on Friday 7th March. As part of our celebrations we are inviting children to dress up as a book character for the day. Simple, budget friendly ideas can be found at Families - World Book Day along with more ideas for extending the fun at home!

We will also be having a themed menu and a number of activities in school designed to celebrate and promote a love of reading. Look out for menu updates in the newsletter.

In order to support our families who may struggle to find or create costumes, we would like to build a collection of spare costumes in school. If you have spare or outgrown costumes that are still in good condition that you would like to donate to the school, they would be gratefully received (in child and adult sizes).

On Tuesday 11th of February, Year Three performed their year group assembly of 'Amazing Egyptians' to parents and carers.  They performed with gusto, sang and danced to the music of Ancient Egypt, became experts in their fields and persuaded us all into believing they were genuine quiz hosts!  Well done Year Three!

  • OWPS Battle of the Voices

    Published 14/02/25

This Wednesday, 12th February, saw our entire school (staff and pupils) take part in Orton Wistow: Battle of the Voices!

This was a singing competition that hopefully you have heard your child/children discussing! For the last few weeks, instead of having a singing assembly, the school has split into 7 groups, and we have all been learning a song for the competition. We had 3 judges come along and judge our performances, looking at musical aspects, such as tuning and tone, but also considering the performance overall and how well the audience responded to the performances! The hall was filled with some incredible singing, and it was truly wonderful to see all the children singing (and dancing in some cases) their hearts out! It was an absolutely fantastic afternoon - there were big smiles and a spring in our steps as we left the hall. A huge well done to all of our performers, especially to our winners, Status Wistow, who won with their amazing rendition of 'Rockin' All Over the World'.

  • FOWS School Disco

    Published 03/02/25

If you haven't already heard, the first school disco of the year will be taking place on Thursday (6th Feb).

As usual, we are holding 2 separate discos, for children from FS to Year 2 from 4.30 to 5.30pm, and Years 3 to 6 at 5.45 - 7.00pm. A member of staff from each class will be present to assist the children as needed.

Please arrive at the front school (main office) entrance to drop children off and collect from the back of the hall (through the Platform 1 gate, accessed through the car park). As it is late, older children will not be allowed to walk home alone, even if they do on a normal school day.

For safety reasons, we have been asked to advise parents not to park in the school staff car park.

Please can parents take children's coats when they drop them off and bring them back when they are collected as we have nowhere to store them in the hall and the rest of the school will not be open to the children.

For the first time, we are trialing using a card machine for payments. To prevent queueing as we only have one card reader, we suggest that cash payment may be faster for entry. It will be £4 per person, with a drink and snack included.

We hope you all enjoy the disco.

  • Maths Competition

    Published 17/01/25

Last week, a group of children from Year 4 went to Laxton Primary School, Oundle to take part in a maths challenge competition.  The children worked really hard at different challenges, such as Roman numeral puzzles and using different numbers to find the calculations with an answer of 24 (a bit like on countdown).   They used lots of the toolkit as they worked through the challenges including resilience and perseverance and represented Orton Wistow superbly, following the pride code. Miss Marchant was very proud of them, and they were very pleased with their cookie/ cake snack even though we didn't win.
