On Wednesday 11th December, the OWPS Choir went to Notcutts to perform some of the songs that we have been learning this term. The children represented the school brilliantly, and sang beautifully. They've been working very hard on aspects of their singing, trying to enunciate the words clearly, and include some dynamics and shaping into their songs. They were absolute stars and really enjoyed the performance. Thank you to those who came along to watch us - it was wonderful to have such a supportive audience. In the final week of term we will be visiting Napier Place and singing to the residents there.

Last week, Year 2 went to the New Theatre to watch the Snowman and the Snowdog in concert. Myself and Mrs Khan were so proud of the children during this trip. They followed the PRIDE code and represented the school really well. The children loved singing along to a variety of Christmas songs before watching the movie, accompanied by a live orchestra. The children loved spotting all of the instruments being played!
Here at Orton Wistow Primary School, we recognise that success comes in all different shapes and sizes! We celebrate the children's achievements in school in the Achievements section of the newsletter and website.
Many of the children, however, are also achieving things outside of school. We would like to recognise these successes too.
It might be that your child has passed a music or dance exam, gained a karate belt, starred in a show, volunteered, taken part in a sporting event, or done something that they didn't think was possible!
If you would like to share your child's achievements with us so that we can celebrate their success, please complete the Celebrating Success form which can also be found below. Contributions will be considered for inclusion in upcoming editions of the newsletter.
We look forward to hearing about your children's extracurricular achievements!
This Week's Successes!
This child took part in performing at the Christmas show spectacular last Sunday. She and over 130 other girls ages 3 to 18, from the Peterborough performing arts school have worked really hard every Saturday since summer and delivered a high-class show on the day. They danced and sang our favourite Christmas classics. She shined at her acrobatics talent.

We will be having the Book Fair in school again soon, just in time for the FOWS Christmas Fayre on Friday 13th Dec, and after school on Monday 16th. Every purchase raises money for us to buy books for school, and this year for the first time we will have a card machine for contactless payments -so it's the perfect opportunity to do a little Christmas shopping!
On Friday 22nd November, we welcomed family members to come into school and join their child for the Year 5 Family learning session, where the focus was on GPS (Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling).
A busy hour started with a fun interactive game of Kahoot followed by some in-depth learning, including videos and written work on the tables. This included modal verbs and apostrophes, relative clauses and adjectives. Using a picture stimulus, the children with their families created a descriptive paragraph using the learning and knowledge from the start. Parents took home a writing check list to help support their child’s writing.
A big thank you to everyone who was able to join us!
We recently took part in the St Andrews Church Christmas Card Competition, where students designed their own cards. We are proud to say the two entries below were chosen to be printed. Entries are also displayed at the Church in Alwaton during the month of December.
This week at OWPS, there has been a whole school focus on staying safe online, from not talking to strangers online, to not giving out any personal information. Keeping all our children safe!
On Friday 29th November, we had an online safety assembly carried out by the Online Safety Rangers from each Key Stage 2 class.
It was a highly successful half an hour. The Online Rangers were introduced wearing their new smart badges. Three children then linked the school’s PRIDE code to staying safe online. For example; P=Polite, using kind words when texting / speaking to people online.
The Year 3 ranger then showed her SMART tips poster, e.g. T=Tell, tell a trusted adult if you feel scared, worried or confused online. Year 4 rangers spoke about ‘personal information’ and what is safe to share and why. Year 6 gave a more grown speech around personal information linked to malware and Ip addresses.
Teddy had created a 6-question quiz, each question having four possible answers. As the rangers read out the questions with the possible answers, the children in the audience could point to a letter that had been put up around the hall. An interactive quiz, an interactive assembly! The children loved it! There was a buzz of excitement every time the 300 strong audience got a question right!

This child in Year 2 has been working really hard in his swimming lessons and has achieved his 100-metre distance certificate this month. Well done, keep it up.
