Dear all
We are still collecting for Harvest donations until the end of next week, with our contributions going to the Peterborough Food Bank. Donations are to be placed in the school hall on the table. All proceeds will be given to the Peterborough Foodbank to support families across the city. Any donation, no matter how small, would be warmly received. See details below directly from the Peterborough Foodbank for your information.
Thank you very much

Are you interested in being a parent volunteer at Orton Wistow Primary School? Any time a family member can offer the school is greatly appreciated. I had the same parent helper for about four years when I was a class teacher, and they made such a difference. Whether it is helping out in the classroom, completing some admin tasks or listening to children read, it will positively impact on the school and our pupils. If interested, please contact Miss. Tansley via the school office. Thank you, Mr. Marks.

On 25th September, our first Family Learning session took place. It was wonderful to see so many family members join the Year Six pupils for an hour looking at calculation strategies.
Last week, Year Five went on their annual residential trip to Hilltop. During the three days, we participated in games and teamwork, plus lots of other fun activities (not including the wasps and snake). We also harnessed nerves of steel to complete the 'Air Drop', 'Tree Top Trail' and 'Zip Lining'. Finally, we learnt how to make fire to boil water, enjoying hot chocolate and marshmallows around the camp fire. In the evening, we played games, watched films and danced at the disco. It was lots of fun, but very tiring!
Next Thursday, 2nd October, is Census Day.
What is Census Day?
This is an important day for schools in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, and across the country as we have to submit data to the government. This data helps them to decide how much funding we should have next financial year. We are one of the lowest funded schools in Peterborough, and so we need to make sure we get as much funding as possible.
For every Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 child having a school meal on that day, the school receives a year’s worth of school meals funding, which is £490 per child. If your child misses dinner on that day, we don’t receive the funding.
Census Day at OWPS
We would like every Key Stage 1 child (Foundation to Year 2) to have a school dinner on this day as it will assist the school with gaining this important funding.
Thursday 2nd October Dinner Menu:
Main Course: Margarita Pizza (v) or Chicken Nuggets (change to menu)
Dessert: Iced Sponge & Pink Sauce or Ice Cream from the Ice Cream Station (change to menu). Children will be able to pick their own toppings and sauces at the ice cream station.
Please contact the School Office if you have any questions or any concerns with the menu, and we will see if we can resolve them.
Thank you very much in advance for your support.
Kind regards
Mr Marks
Here at Orton Wistow Primary School, we recognise that success comes in all different shapes and sizes! We celebrate the children's achievements in school in the Achievements section of the newsletter and website.
Many of the children, however, are also achieving things outside of school. We would like to recognise these successes too.
It might be that your child has passed a music or dance exam, gained a karate belt, starred in a show, volunteered, taken part in a sporting event, or done something that they didn't think was possible!
If you would like to share your child's achievements with us so that we can celebrate their success, please complete the Celebrating Success form which can also be found below. Contributions will be considered for inclusion in upcoming editions of the newsletter.
We look forward to hearing about your children's extracurricular achievements!

The Pastoral Team at school has asked for some donations.
They are currently seeking items such as:

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news from our school community! Migle, from Year 6, recently auditioned for the Show & Skate Christmas production of Dick Whittington, and we’re incredibly proud to announce that she has secured one of the lead roles!
Migle will be lighting up the ice as the goofy and charismatic First Mate Hardly Hear Sailor—a role that couldn’t be more perfect for her vibrant personality and natural charm.
Come support Migle as she performs on 4th December at Planet Ice Peterborough. It’s going to be a fantastic show, and your support would mean the world to her! ⛸✨
Tickets can be booked online— https://iceaccount.co.uk/global-events/event/?event_id=7719
This chid from school was given a challenge to plan and design a roller coaster for a Merlin Passholders Competition. He won the competition and the organisers loved his ideas.
