Most children in Peterborough will start school in the September of the school year in which they will become 5 years of age.
All children are allowed to start full-time in September.
If you feel that your child is not ready to start school in the September following their fourth birthday, you can either arrange for your child to attend part-time until they reach statutory school age, or defer the date your child is admitted to the school until later on in the Reception year.
If you choose to defer admission to later in the academic year, you must discuss it with your allocated school when you accept the school place. Where a place is deferred, it cannot be given to another child but you must enter school by the beginning of the school term following their fifth birthday and within the school year for which the offer was made.
The table below sets out the options:
|1 September to 31 December (Autumn born)||Child can attend full-time or part-time from September or defer admission until January|
|1 Jan to 31 March (Spring born)||Child can attend full-time or part-time from September or defer admission until January or Easter|
|1 April to 31 August (Summer born)||Child can attend full-time or part-time from September or defer admission until January or Easter|
You need to make an application for a Reception class place even if your child currently attends a Nursery class at the same school.
