Friends of Wistow School

The main reason why most people join the FOWS team is to get involved because we all have one special, precious thing in common – our children. The FOWS work primarily to make our school the best we possibly can for our children.

In its time the FOWS has raised thousands of pounds, which have been spent on improving equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education and school life experiences.  However, our FOWS is about much, much more than just fundraising. It exists to provide closer links between home and school, and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal. It is great fun too!!!

School Lottery

With the support of the school, FOWS has set up a school lottery. It is a fantastic and easy way to raise additional funds, through a weekly local raffle and national lottery. A national company looks after all the administration, as well as collecting and paying out the money, so you can be sure all payments are secure and your information is kept safe (you can check them out here

Each ticket costs £1 per week (collected monthly, so it averages out to £4.32 per month) by direct debit or recurring card charge. There is a weekly cash prize which will be won by someone from Orton Wistow Primary School (the actual sum is based on a percentage of total ticket sales). In addition to this, every member is entered into a national draw with the chance to win £25,000 every week! FOWS gets a percentage of the total ticket sales – if we sign up 30 participants, that will be £624 per year of additional funds in the bank, or if we get to 50 that will be £1,040, which would be brilliant.

Fundraising Initiatives

Parents can help raise money by using easyfundraising and STIKINS name labels.  The school receives a commission on purchases made through these organisations.  For more details, please see the Fundraising Initiatives section.

FOWS events include:

House Cake Sales, School Discos, Family Quiz Evening, Leavers Party, Ice Cream Fridays, Summer Fete, Christmas Bazaar and the Children’s Christmas Shop.

How You Can Get Involved

As parents, you are AUTOMATICALLY a member of the FOWS… your voice counts.

Our FOWS depends on a continual cycle of parent involvement. As children reach their final year and leave, so do their parents. The teachers and head support us when possible, but without all your support, we have no FOWS – WE REALLY DO NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

The FOWS is a mixture of parents that work together for the benefit of our school. Some are full-time parents, some work part-time or work full-time. NONE of us are specialists in fundraising.

There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through FOWS. Please contact us via email;, like us on Facebook (FOWS) and follow us on Twitter @OWPSfows.

On behalf of all the children, we would like to thank you for your very valuable support which enriches their learning experiences and makes their time in school so enjoyable. Together we will make a difference.
